Top Family Games to Play in the Car

Top Family Games to Play in the Car

Top family games to play in the car

So you’ve been stuck inside all year and now you’re finally ready to hit the road for a big trip with family or friends. Everything’s packed, everything’s ready, you all clamber into the car and off you go.

And 10 minutes later you’re bored. You would think that a year of being cooped up inside would have prepared you for a long journey inside a metal box, but alas, you’re only human.

Don’t worry though, the 1st Call Windscreens team is here to give you some fun, easy-to-play car games to keep that boredom at bay.

I Spy

An absolute classic. I Spy is a great game to play with children to get them a bit more engaged with their surroundings, but let’s be honest: it’s fun for us adults too.

However, there’s a delicate balance that you need to strike when playing I Spy. On the one hand, you don’t want to make your choice too easy (we’re looking at you, sky), otherwise the game will be over in an instant. You also don’t want to make your choice too obscure, unless you want everyone to become bored out of their minds trying to guess something like “osprey” because you saw a bird in the distance a few miles back.

Four Car Garage

This game does require that all passengers are at least somewhat into cars, which isn’t usually the case. If they are though, it’s game on!

So each player in the vehicle has got a fictional garage in which they can store four cars. You can add a car to your garage by spotting one as you drive past it. The beauty of this game is you can continue to play it passively throughout the journey, and it gets you a little more invested in the sort of vehicles you’re actually sharing the road with.

The Picnic Game

The Picnic Game is a simple memory-based game that’s perfect to play with kids. You can keep them occupied and give their brains a workout!

The basic idea is this: one person says “I went to a picnic and brought…” followed by some object beginning with the letter “A”. The next person has to repeat exactly what they’ve just heard, and then add another item on the end beginning with the letter “B”. The game continues like this, until the list eventually becomes too convoluted and someone gets it wrong.

The Word Association Game

An easy game that becomes more fun the faster it goes. Someone starts by saying a word, then the next person has to quickly shout out a word that’s related to it, and so on and so forth until the topic has shifted to something else entirely. For example, it could go: “fruit”, “pear”, “apple”, and then someone might change tack and say “laptop”, then off you go down a different route.

Pub Cricket

This is a great game, but it only really works when you’re driving on A and B roads rather than motorways.

The aim of the game is to be the first person to spot a pub and correctly shout out the number of limbs of the person or animal the pub is named after. For example, if you drove past The George and Dragon, you would need to shout out eight (both George and the dragon have four limbs each). Good luck if you drive past the Beehive Inn.
