Tips on How to Save Money on Fuel! ⛽

Petrol and diesel prices have been particularly volatile over the last few months, something that’s been exacerbated even further by the war in Ukraine. The 1st Call Windscreens team can’t do anything about these unfortunate circumstances, but what we can do is this: provide you, a regular motorist, with some quick and easy fuel-saving tips.
Go easy on the accelerator
Going fast is a surefire way to use more petrol. Ease up a bit and you’ll be surprised how much you save.
Make fewer trips
You don’t have to be Einstein to work this one out: take fewer trips – use less petrol.
Turn off the air-con and heating
Many people don’t realise that air-con and heating contribute to petrol consumption. Turn them off if you don’t need them.
Skip an occasional gear
Changing gear can be more fuel-intensive than you might think; skip second or fourth every now and then – when appropriate – to minimise gear usage.
Don’t rest on the brake
Keeping your foot on the brake for long periods when you’re trying to control speed is bad for the brakes and spends excess fuel – unlearn this habit ASAP!
Remove excess weight
Driving around with a boot full of stuff you don’t need is an easy way to make a journey more expensive. Give your vehicle a good clearout before each trip.
Decelerate gradually
As you may know, braking sharply can increase fuel consumption. Where possible, try to slow down gradually and anticipate stops early.
Maintain a steady speed
Going too quickly is one thing, and constantly changing speed is another. When you can, try to maintain a steady, consistent speed. Your wallet will thank you for it.
Check tyre pressure
If your tyres aren’t inflated optimally, your engine is going to have to do a lot more heavy lifting to get your car from A to B which, in turn, means you will spend more on fuel. So, make sure you check your tyres!
Don’t put off an oil change
If you want to economise on fuel, you want to make sure your engine is in tip-top shape, so make sure you check your engine oil regularly and add more if necessary.
