1st Call Windscreens Christmas Playlist

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Christmas is here once more and – fingers crossed – it’s not getting cancelled. To celebrate our first post-lockdown Christmas, the 1st Call Windscreens team has decided to put a Driving Home for Christmas playlist together to provide a soundtrack for all the people who are hopping in their cars and venturing up and down the country to see loved ones.

As it’s a pretty long playlist, we’ve decided to cover the top 10 songs in no particular order, just to give you a flavour of what you might hear.

Chris Rea – “Driving Home for Christmas”

No prizes for guessing that this was going to make it onto the playlist. We love this song, and not just because it’s about driving either, it’s just one of the cosiest Christmas songs out there.

The Pogues – “Fairytale of New York”

“Fairytale of New York” is great because it doesn’t sound like any other Christmas song. It’s got a distinctly Irish bounce to it and, despite the sad lyrics, the accordion never fails to make us happy!

Billy Mack – “Christmas Is All Around”

If you’ve ever watched Love Actually – and let’s face it: you have – you’ll know that washed up rockstar Billy Mack’s “Christmas Is All Around” is the only song you’ll need for your drive home. Just strap in and let Bill Nighy’s crooning do the rest.

Wham! – “Last Christmas”

George Michael’s Christmas hit, which was written and produced 36 years ago, managed to make it to number one earlier this year after the death of the band’s co-founder. This set a new record for the longest time taken for a single to reach the number one spot (it was pipped in the year of its release by Band Aid’s “Do They Know It’s Christmas”).

Frank Sinatra – “Jingle Bells”

Yeah, yeah, we’re sure you’ve heard “Jingle Bells” before, but have you heard Frank Sinatra sing it? No? Well put it on right now and thank us later.

The Ronettes – “Frosty the Snowman”

A lot of bands have had a go at singing “Frosty the Snowman” and, in our opinion, The Ronettes did it best. There’s something a bit magical about their performance which lends itself well to a song about a walking, talking, dancing snowman.

Jose Feliciano – “Feliz Navidad”

If you didn’t think a bit of Spanish guitar would get you in the mood to drive home for Christmas, well, prepared to be proven absolutely wrong. “Feliz Navidad” is an undeniable Christmas hit and if you’re not screaming “we want to wish you a merry Christmas!” by the end of the song then, frankly, there’s something wrong with you.

Frank Sinatra – “Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!”

Our top ten has been quite high energy so far, so we thought we’d turn the pace down a few notches with Frank Sinatra’s “Let it Snow!”. It doesn’t get more cosy than heaps of snow outside and a roaring fire inside, so just relax to this one. Don’t get too relaxed though – keep your eyes on the road!

Elton John – “Step Into Christmas”

Written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, “Step Into Christmas” is everything you’d want from an Elton John Christmas song – lot’s of jaunty piano lines and a great, danceable rhythm. Stick it on, you won’t regret it.

Band Aid – “Do They Know It’s Christmas Time?”

Here it is – the song that beat Wham! all those years ago. It’s a little more melancholy than some of the others that made it to the top 10, but it’s no less brilliant. Hopefully you’ve got a box of tissues ready in the glovebox.

We hope you enjoyed our list of top 10 Christmas songs to drive home to (how couldn’t you? They’re the best!). And remember: this is just 10 songs from the playlist, there are still plenty more you find on there!

Enjoy your drive home this Christmas, and if you need to get your windscreen looked at beforehand, give 1st Call Windscreens a call.
